This is a program-specific application for Practical Nursing Certificate (PNC). It is separate from the general GCC admission application.

New applicants to GCC – you must complete both:
1. The general admission application
2. This program-specific application
Current GCC students – you must complete this program-specific application to be considered for admission.

Admission Criteria & Requirements

Practical Nursing Certificate Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for admission:

Be a Current or New GCC Student
- New students: Submit a general GCC admission application and select Practical Nursing as your intended major.
- Current GCC Students: Submit a change of major form to Pre-Nursing/LPN Intent (NUC). (Must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, maintained from time of application through completion of the program.)
Submit official high school transcript or HiSET (GED) with graduation date
Submit official transcripts from previously attended colleges
Meet the Math Requirement (completed within the last 7 years with a grade of C+ or better)
- HUD 138, MAT 095 or Accuplacer placing out into MAT 120
- equivalent coursework at another institution.
Complete the English Composition I (or equivalent) with a grade of C or better
Complete one course from the list below within 7 years with a grade of C or better
- BIO 194 Comprehensive Anatomy and Physiology
- BIO 215 Human Anatomy and Physiology I*
- BIO 216 Human Anatomy and Physiology II
*Important information about the science requirement: Both BIO 215 AND BIO 216 are needed to meet the curriculum requirement in the fall semester, but only one is needed to apply to the program.
Submit the Required Essay
- An essay prompt will be provided in your applicant status portal after you apply.

Successful completion of this program requires proficiency in the performance of a variety of skills. Technical standards, meant to clarify minimal standards for essential affective and psychomotor functions, require students to:

Be ambulatory
Be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
Possess fine motor coordination required to perform such technical skills as preparation and administration of medications
Have visual acuity to perform technical skills such as physical assessment, preparation of proper dosage of medications
Have auditory perception allowing effective use of stethoscope and communication
Have emotional stability required to exercise sound judgment and intervention activities
Have emotional maturity to develop appropriate therapeutic relationships
