    Instructions

    This is a program-specific application for Paramedic Certificate Program (PMC). It is separate from the general GCC admission application.

    • New applicants to GCC – you must complete both:
      1. The general admission application
      2. This program-specific application
    • Current GCC students – you must complete this program-specific application to be considered for admission.

    To be eligible for the Paramedic Certification Program, you must be currently certified as either an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT).

    Admission Criteria & Requirements
    Paramedic Certificate Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for admission:
    1. Be a Current or New GCC Student
      • New students: Submit a general GCC admission application and select Paramedic Certificate as your intended major. 
      • Current GCC Students: Submit a change of major form to Liberal Arts/Health Science with Paramedic intent within MyGCC. (Must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, maintained from time of application through completion of the program.)
    2. Submit official high school transcript or HiSET (GED) with graduation date
    3. Complete the English Requirement. All Paramedic Certificate students must demonstrate proficiency in English by one of the following:
      • Successfully completing any college level course at GCC (with a grade of C- or better)
      • Submitting official transcripts of previous college coursework (with a grade of C- or better), or
      • Taking a placement assessment 
    4. Complete Experience Verification Form (minimum of 75 ambulance patient contacts)
    5. Proof of current EMT or AEMT certification (submit one of the following):
      • Current Massachusetts EMT or Advanced EMT license card, or
      • Current NREMT Basic or Advanced certification card, or
      • EMT Basic or Advanced license card from another state (e.g., CT, VT, NH)
    6. Current AHA BLS CPR certification

    Successful completion of this program requires proficiency in the performance of a variety of skills. Technical standards, meant to clarify minimal standards for essential affective and psychomotor functions, require students to:

    1. Be ambulatory
    2. Be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
    3. Possess fine motor coordination required to perform such technical skills as preparation and administration of medications
    4. Have visual acuity to perform technical skills such as physical assessment, preparation of proper dosage of medications
    5. Have auditory perception allowing effective use of stethoscope and communication
    6. Have emotional stability required to exercise sound judgment and intervention activities
    7. Have emotional maturity to develop appropriate therapeutic relationships
