    This is a special program application for students interested in applying to Associate of Applied Science, Surgical Technology. It is separate from the general GCC admission application.

    • If you are a new applicant to GCC, you must complete both the general admission application and this program-specific application.
    • If you are a current GCC student, you are still required to complete this special program application to be considered for admission to the program.

    Please select your current status at GCC:

    • "Currently enrolled GCC student" refers to students who are taking classes during the current Spring or Summer I semester.
    • "New admission applicant" refers to individuals who have applied to begin at GCC in the upcoming Fall semester.
    Admission Criteria & Requirements

    Surgical Technology Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for admission:

    • Current GCC student or new GCC student that has submitted a GCC admission application selecting major of Surgical Technology 
    • Must be 18 years old by Sept. 1, 2025
    • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent
    • Demonstrated basic English competency, either through Placement Testing (Accuplacer) or transfer of college-level English credit
    • Successfully completed MAT120 (or equivalent) within the past 7 years with a grade of C or better
    • Successfully completed BIO126 (or equivalent) within 10 years with a grade of C or better
    • Attend a mandatory Information Session

    Additional criteria considered for admission:

    • One year experience in medical field
    • Current GPA
    • Support courses completed

    Successful completion of this program requires proficiency in the performance of a variety of skills. Technical standards, meant to clarify minimal standards for essential affective and psychomotor functions, require students to

    1. Must be ambulatory
    2. Be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
    3. Be able to perform functions such as standing for prolonged periods of time (4-6 hours) while navigating surgical field environment, often requiring abstinence from nourishment and restroom breaks
    4. Possess fine and gross motor skills, and the ability to perform multiple motor tasks simultaneously
    5. Have visual ability to see 20/20 or better with or without corrective lenses, distinguish shades of color, and have peripheral and depth perception; be able to hear and understand muffled communication without visualization of the communicator's mouth
    6. Have comprehensive understanding of spoken and written English language, including the ability to learn medical terminology
    7. Have emotional maturity to work with others in a variety of settings and situations; be able to maintain hygiene, uniform requirements, and aseptic technique; be able to think critically, apply ethical standards, and maintain utmost integrity
    8. Be able to prioritize responses and interventions in emergency situations
    9. Have emotional stability required to adapt to changing environments and work-related challenges while maintaining composure under stress
